What is the Difference Between a Piano and a Keyboard?
Most of us would have tried playing or at least have seen a piano and a keyboard. Even though they look awfully similar they are not the same and it’s interesting to look deeper into the differences between a piano and a keyboard. If you are a music enthusiast or you look forward to learn a mighty musical instrument like the piano, the best way to learn piano lessons here is by beginning from learning about it. A lot of people think that the best way to learn the piano is by starting with a smaller and a less expensive instrument like a keyboard. At least it will give you some idea about what you have to do and what not. However, this is a complete misconception because both of these musical instruments are very different.
Even though a keyboard and a piano look similar and make similar sounds, they are indeed very different and you should choose between them wisely. Firstly, you need to understand the basic differences between how they are used a how they are constructed. This will give you an idea about what kind of music you can play on a piano or a keyboard and which one you would want to go with.
Your choice should depend on your taste of music as well as your budget and living space. For example, if you’re the kind of musician who moves around from places to places and likes to perform outdoors, handling and maintaining a piano can be pretty difficult for you. Also, a piano can take up a lot of space in your living room and you cannot afford it as long as you’re living space is big enough. On the other hand, a keyboard can be taken around and stored in a corner without a lot of hassle. Also, a keyboard costs much less than a piano.
Even though a keyboard is easier to handle and cheaper, the piano is classy, massive, and produces an acoustic sound which the keyboard cannot do. So, if you want the kind of music that only a piano can give out, then you cannot substitute it with a keyboard. Even though a keyboard may look like the younger cousin of a piano, it’s actually a descendant of the pipe organ. While a piano is a string instrument, the keyboard works on electricity.
